Dr Barbara Novak is Professor of Civil and Commercial Law at the Faculty of Law, University of Ljubljana (Slovenia).
The principal topics of her teaching and research are the family law and children's rights. She is known for her outstanding works on determining of parenthood, custody of children, maintenance, legal care of adults, legal position of same-sex partners, personal name, gender recognition, other topics of personal status and children's fundamental rights in school. Many of her works have been approved and often cited by the Slovene Supreme Court and the Slovene Constitutional Court. She has participated in a group preparing the proposals of the amendments and working on the outlines of the new Slovenian family law regulation.

Barbara Novak - Biography#
Prof. dr. Barbara Novak is full professor of civil and commercial law at the Faculty of Law at the University of Ljubljana. Her teaching and research work is focused on civil law and in particular, family law, comparative family law and personality rights law.
Barbara Novak joined the Faculty of Law of the University of Ljubljana in 1995 after a two-year traineeship at the Higher Court in Ljubljana and a stage at the Ministry of justice where she passed the state bar exam. Barbara Novak received her doctorate in 1999 and ten years later was elected to the title of full professor.
Barbara Novak fulfilled numerous duties at the faculty and university level: she was head of the Department of Civil Law, member of the faculty senate and served in the University of Ljubljana Habilitation Commission.
