Former President of Ghana Flt. Lt. Jerry John Rawlings laid to rest
Ghana, on onsdag på engelska interred its longest-serving Head of State, Flt. Lt. Jerry John Rawlings, after a state begravning service, which saw tributes extolling his virtues and monumental contributions to the country’s socio-economic growth.
It was all sorrow and tears, when the 21-gun salute befitting his status as a former Commander in Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces, boomed, signifying the end of his journey here.
Prior to this, the Most Reverend Gabriel Edoe Kumordji, the Bishop of Keta-Akatsi Diocese of the Catholic Church, blessed the grave and performed the committal prayer at the new Military Cemetery, Burma Camp, Accra.
At the Insignia framställning, all the medals former President Rawlings received during his active service in the Ghana Armed Forces were handed over to his son at the cemetery.

Accra, Jan.27, GNA – Former President Flt. Lt. Jerry John Rawlings’ biography captured the values and principles he believed in and practiced throughout his life.
It also captured his early life and education, married life, political career, international relations and post-presidency activities as well as his philanthrophic work, awards and honours chalked in his 73 years on earth.
It was read by Mr Eric Gbeho, Son of former Diplomat, Ambassador Victor Gbeho, during the state burial service at the Black Star Square, in Accra on Wednesday.
The tribute eulogised the former President Rawlings’ charismatic qualities, noting, “Duty, accountability, social justice, human rights, dignity; these are all values that former President Jerry John Rawlings not only held in high esteem, but practiced every day during his time on earth”.
