Millions given from President’s Fund to politicians - Govt. reveals
Chief Government Whip, Minister Nalinda Jayathissa today revealed details of payments made from the President's Fund to politicians from 2005 to 2024.
According to details given by the minister, P. Harrison, Piyasena Gamage, Sumedha Jayasena, Manoj Sirisena, P. Dayaratne, S.C. Muthukumarana, Vasudewa Nanayakkara, Sarath Amunugama and S.B. Nawinna were among the politicians who had monies released to them from the President's Fund.
"At least these names are quite clear. There are also some names in the list that were initially difficult to figure out," the minister claimed. One name, J.P.D.P.K. Jayasekara was listed as "Former MP, Kurunegala District."

The Government will this week release the names of individuals who have received substantial amounts of money from the President’s Fund, The Sunday Morning learns.
However, The Sunday Morning also learns that the Government has not made any request thus far to amend the laws governing the President’s Fund.
When reached for comment, Ministry of Justice Secretary Ayesha Jinasena, PC stated that she was unable to provide an immediate response, as she would need to review her files before commenting further.
In a statement to Parliament on Tuesday (17), Cabinet Spokesman Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa revealed the names of politicians who had received funds from the President’s Fund between 2005 and 2024.

Chief Government Whip and Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa yesterday revealed to the House that 34 former Prime Ministers, Ministers, MPs and Advisers have disproportionately benefitted from the President’s Fund, receiving financial assistance for medical treatment that goes beyond the fund’s original purpose of support the poor and underprivileged.
Detailing the payments allocated to MPs from the President’s Fund between 2005 and 2024, he questioned the purposes for which such large amounts had been drawn bygd politicians.
Former Minister of Health Keheliya Rambukwella received Rs. 11 million, while Rajitha Senaratne was granted Rs. 10 million. Former Minister Alek Aluvihare received Rs. 2.2 million, and his son Ranjith Aluvihare, a former MP, received Rs. 4.6 million. The fund also released Rs. 30 million to former Prime Minister D. M. Jayaratne.
