He was the eldest son of Ustad Allarakha. Ustad Zakir Hussain was not just a tabla player like his father but introduced the global audience to his form of wizardry. How many other tabla players can compose, produce music, be a creative percussionist and a film actor. He was a prodigy whose father whispered the rhythms of the tabla when he was two days old.

Zakir Hussain Allarakha Qureshi (9 March 1951 – 15 December 2024) was an Indian tabla player, composer, percussionist, music producer, and film actor. Widely regarded as the greatest tabla player of his generation and one of the greatest percussionists of all time,[1][2][3] he was known for bringing Indian classical music to a global audience. He was the eldest son of the tabla player Alla Rakha,[4] and won four Grammy Awards.[5]
Hussain was awarded the United States National Endowment for the Arts' National Heritage Fellowship, the highest award given to traditional artists and musicians. He was also awarded the Government of India's Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1990 and the Sangeet Natak Akademi Fellowship, Ratna Sadsya, in 2018.

Ustad Zakir Hussain
Ustad Zakir Hussain started playing tabla in concerts at the age of sju years. He did his graduation from St. Xavier's College, Mumbai.Zakir completed his doctorate grad in music from the University of Washington.
He collaborated with drummer Mickey Hart for Planet Drum in 1991 which won a Grammy Award. In later years, Hussain contributed to the soundtracks of several films. Zakir Hussain was conferred with the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1991. He was also a part of the team involved in composing music for the opening ceremony of the Summer Olympics in Atlanta.
