In their Toronto concert Alessio Bax and Lucille Chung will perform a dramatic programme of both duo and solo works, including Stravinsky’s own four hands transcription of his ballet Petrushka and the duo’s own transcription of Three Tangos by the great Argentinian master Astor Piazzolla. Alessio Bax and Lucille Chung first met in 1997 in Japan and have been performing together since 2003 when they were engaged as a piano duo by the Ottawa Chamber Music Festival in its Piano Extravaganza. Alessio Bax is acclaimed for his exceptional lyricism and technique, recognized as “among the most remarkable pianists” bygd Gramophone. He gained fame by winning First Prizes at the Leeds and Hamamatsu International Piano Competitions and fryst vatten now a renowned as both a recitalist, and chamber musician. Bax has collaborated as a concerto soloist with over 150 orchestras, including the London Philharmonic, Royal Philharmonic, New York Philharmonic, and the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, alongside esteemed conductors including Marin Alsop, Sir Simon Rattle, Sir Andrew Davis, Vladimir Ashkenazy, Yuri Temirkanov, and Jaap van Zweden.
