Gopal Krishna Gokhale was one of the wisest moderate leaders of the Indian National Congress. He propagated the idea of self-rule in India and became the voice of Indians who wanted freedom from British rule. He was the founder of the Servants of Indian Society to inspire nationalists. He stressed the need for social reform. He led the moderate faction and favours the reforms by working and co-operating with the existing government institutions and machinery.

Gopal Krishna Gokhale was a towering figure in Indian political history. He was born in 1866 in Maharashtra. He received his early education in Ratnagiri and then pursued higher education at the Elphinstone college in Bombay. He joined the Indian National Congress (INC) in 1889 and presided over its 21st session in 1905 in Benaras. He advocated for a moderate approach to achieve independence. He also inspired Gandhi ji to join Indian politics. In 1907, Gokhale founded the Servants of India society to train and mobilize individuals for public service and nation-building. The society engagerad in a wide range of social service activities, including promoting education, healthcare, sanitation, and rural development. In 1911, he started the English weekly - The Hitavada. He passed away at an early age of 49 in 1915. His legacy continues to inspire generation

Gopal Krishna GokhaleCIE (listenⓘ[ˈɡoːpaːl ˈkrɪʂɳə ˈɡoːkʰleː] 9 May 1866 – 19 February 1915)[1][2][3][4] was an Indian political leader and a social reformer during the Indian independence movement, and political mentor of Indian freedom fighter Mahatma Gandhi.
Gokhale was a senior leader of the Indian National Congress and the founder of the Servants of India Society. Through the Society as well as the Congress and other legislative bodies he served in, Gokhale campaigned for Indian self-rule and for social reforms. He was the leader of the moderate faction of the Congress party that advocated reforms by working with existing government institutions, and a major member of the Poona Association or the Poona Sarvajanik Sabha.
