Dawn Berard stood by the metal barricade that separates the spectators from the construction crew on the set of “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition,” watching countless volunteers build a house for the Hill family.
Berard and her children – Kieran, 17; John, 16; Tara, 14; and Tessa, 11 – have made the hourlong drive from their home in South Hadley, Mass., every day since Tuesday to set up camp across the street from the house.
They’ve stood in the thick, stinky mud by this fence for five hours each day, sometimes with a “We Love You, Ty” sign, always with a camera and camcorder in tow, , rain or shine, for a piece of their favorite show.
Even on Father’s Day, before the site was open to the public, dad Donald joined the family and drove them down to Suffield.
“We came to see where the house was. The street was closed,” Dawn Berard said. “We talked to security guards,” then drove back home.

William and Catherine had four children of their own, then took in seven nieces and nephews due to Catherine's sister being unfit to care for them. Their home had water damaged, has standing water in the basement, and copious amounts of mold. This 13 person household made for a lot of renovations.
